I know it’s been a while since I posted anything. OK, OK, it’s been almost a year, but who’s counting other than my friend Dawn.
We went to Wadesboro for a family fish fry Labor Day weekend. First we had to catch some fish. We got there late in the morning and the fish were not biting. My brother explained to Rebecca that they had already had breakfast. She replied, “We need to find one that wants a snack.” Eventually we found two little bass that wanted a snack. I personally think it was just too dang hot to eat that day. Luckily my dad and brother had already caught all the fish we needed for dinner, so we were off the hook.

That night it was time for the fish fry. David and I don’t eat much fish, so I wanted to try something different. The dish is known by many names. My friend Cammie first told me about it when she lived in New Orleans. They call it a shrimp boil. I later head it called a low country boil, but my Aunt Linda actually introduced me to a Frogmore Stew. If you want to know more, including the recipe I used, check out this article http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3676/is_200308/ai_n9257367.
My adventure in cooking actually began in Raleigh the night before. My co-workers convinced me I needed to go to a seafood market for the shrimp. I remembered this one I used to pass taking David to work, Earp’s Seafood. I Googled them and learned they had been in business for over 30 years http://www.consultwebs.com/clients/raleigh_seafood_market_earps.html I figured they were probably pretty safe. It was quite the cultural experience and needless to say much different than shopping in my shiny, new grocery store. But boy was it worth it! I cannot describe how good this dish was! Take a look at the picture and tell me you aren’t ready to make a Frogmore Stew yourself.
Yummy!
